Pericles

By William Shakespeare
Presented by San Francisco Shakes during the FREE SF Shakespeare Festival

We went this evening during the last weekend performances in Pleasanton. It was such a fun evening! It was one of those nights that makes my heart just scream out loud: "I LOVE SUMMER!!" William and I dined on greek salad, fruit salad & a sandwich with some white wine & premium orange soda on a cozy quilt before the show started (thanks to his handy dandy picnic box). Our friends Chad and Katie came along for the fun. We were planning for it to be two couples, but Matt got sick. 8o( Get better! The play was vibrant & entertaining. I was surprised by how well I could follow what they were saying--it's been awhile for Shakespeare--my literary ears are out of practice. And it was FREE! Our favorite price. Such a wonderful night! :)

I highly recommend going to see the group. They have one more performance in Pleasanton & they travel around the bay area--they end in San Francisco which would also be a fun place to go. But go early, I walked over there at 1pm to put our blanket down & I'm glad I did--there wasn't much left when we came for dinner at 6pm (the show started at 7:30pm)

I wish...

I would have known my wonderful husband when he was rocking this:

He is so hot yet looks like an entirely different person. I sometimes wonder how I would have reacted if I met him while he was sporting that 'do. What would I have thought? I've seen some old family pictures & during one Christmas while he was growing it out, he looked totally rastafarian. It was awesome. I really hope our future kids get his beautiful, gorgeous, curly locks. :)

Swenson Pride

is for Swenson
I love being a Swenson. It means that I'm a part of a huge, loud, kooky, lovable family that is in each other's business. It means that I am swallowed up with jokes, visits, hugs & kisses. I'm also an instant aunt to 11 nieces & nephews. And I no longer have a long, hard to pronounce last name of Arterburn (Ar-ter-b...as in boy-urn...I have my system down). See Wesley, we did fix that! I love my side of the family dearly as well, but it has been exciting to get to know my new family & its name. As a bridal shower gift, my mom gave us this awesome block S. My mom has a wonderful talent of gift-giving. She is all about excellent taste & presentation.
She's the one who came up with the idea. Yes, mom, I give the credit to you! :) Our "S" collection has grown bit by bit since then. I even added a fun art piece for a back drop, as I pretend I can paint.... The two small "s"s we found in Morro Bay- both for $1 & I painted one of them purple..I didn't like the boring white. Over the weekend I put a little display together. Our house has Swenson pride :)

My Thoughts Exactly

Church pews really do it for me too!

Need Bedroom Furniture?

Well, actually not "need" per-say since we have William's 8 year old Ikea bed but I'd definitely love a grown-up look to go with the rest of our romantic bedroom (the wood between the worlds as William refers to it). I have never owned my own furniture. When we got married, I was gifted my grandma's which I love so much. It's so vintage & comfy. Add in a few extra things from my parents & you've got our townhouse. Post-college, I lived on an air mattress until finally making it back to my parent's bedding then marriage & sharing with William. So needless to say, I'm so thankful that we haven't had to purchase anything ourselves so far. Such a blessing! Nonetheless, I was looking online & came across a fabulous place for beds. I totally fell for these:

I'm currently working on, scratch that, discussing the first one with William. Take away that jeweled pillow & it's less feminine. Making it perfect for us! :)

Sew Let It Be!

I'm dead-set on learning how to sew. And I'm going to make the first step in that direction. So, local gals...I'm giving an open invitation. :) If anyone is interested, I've found some classes at JoAnn Fabrics. They have a Sewing 101 class in Concord on July 19 from 9:30-12 for only $25.00! I'm making a e-proclamation!! This way you know & now I have more positive pressure of following through with it. Make sure to ask me how it went :D

Yippie! Annie's coming with me! Thanks, girl. I'm excited. Anyone else?

Dear Complex Pool

I must admit that I was so skeptical of you when we first moved in. It looks as though you've been around for awhile and not kept in the top condition. However, after spending so much time with you, I have come to appreciate all that you are. Thank you so much for your lovely temperatures, calm atmosphere, and refreshing waters. William & I enjoy it so much! Thanks again for another great dip today. I'm sure we'll be back again real soon. They say it's suppose to get really hot this week. We are so glad we can rely on you for fun times & a cool break. We whole-heartedly pay our HOA dues, we want you to stick around!

Sincerely Your Waterlogged Couple,
William & Jessica

PS Thanks for the chairs in the shade too!

Oakland, CA

Is an awesome city. It has such potential to be cool & happening, but it's so run down. It seems like some areas may be cleaning up their acts. I'd definitely love to spend more time there, checking all the hidden pockets of fun. Oakland definitely has culture either way you look at it. We decided to get cultured. William & I went to the Oakland Museum yesterday afternoon, after church. It has an exhibit entitled, "The Birth of Cool".
The exhibit revisited the 1950s with its clean, square look coupled with the emerging jazz movement. Let me say, very cool. I loved the photography & the furniture (I know where Ikea gets ideas!)

Some of the displays dissected the 1950s-2000s in cultural vocabulary, images and musical tastes. It was really fascinating to see those time periods pieced apart then compared. There really isn't anything new under the sun, just slightly modified.

We also checked out the natural history part too. We loved it. It shows every California habitat & everything living in it. Gotta love taxidermy! How else would one see a mountain lion or a still hummingbird up close? Watch out for those super giant sting rays!

He's got the whole world in his hand:
