Bags!

No, not under your eyes...although I did have them today when forced to get up again at early hours this morning to book it to summer school. I have found this awesome handmade sell & buy website. Tell about six unspectacular quirks of yours.

1. Love brushing my teeth. I do it at least 2-3 times a day
2. Compulsively fix my bangs, gives me something to do & I have a mean widow's peak that I fight with
3. Make eggs in the microwave when I'm by myself...too lazy to do the whole stove & pan thing
4. Roll all my undies up & store them in a basket in my drawer
5. Still wear my 8th grade retainer almost every night--straight teeth :D
6. Love to walk everywhere, try to do it as much as possible

William
1. Meticulous about any sort of preparation (camping, cooking, etc) It'll take forever!
2. Really sensitive teeth, so always orders little to no ice & our Brita is never in the fridge
3. Loves to pop pimples, even his wife's...just like for monkeys, it's a comfort/bonding thing
4. Puts seasoning on everything (he's a chef and I appreciate it)
5. Always carrying a knife with him (Kershaw switch-blade, of course)
6. Carries maxi-pads/tampons in his truck with his first aid kit...so prepared! (apparently, they've been appreciated from past co-workers in need, even for a bloody nose)

Happy Independence Day!

We had a wonderful 4th of July. William didn't have to work so we enjoyed it together. After getting back from the Danville Parade & visiting with AV, William & I exerted our independence by napping! :) Then we went roller-blading, swam in our amazingly warm pool, and dined at our backyard BBQ with my parents. We even played a rousing game of Scattegories. It is hilarious to play with my dad: so competitive! We were too tired to drive anywhere to see fire-works, so we just stayed home. Just a classical 4th day without the fireworks.

How Bad Do You Want It?

Here's me right when I got into line for it...

Can you find me? I'm the last one. My friend, AV, and I went to the Danville Parade yesterday for the morning. We arrived & barely found a parking spot a good walk away. We then wanted our Starbucks so we waited in line for 1 Hour! 30 minutes to order & another to make it. Apparently, we wanted it pretty badly. I've never waited that long for an caffeinated beverage, nor do I think it'll happen again. I'm a pretty impatient gal, but we were just chatting it up in line.

Can you believe it? Would you wait that long?! I've heard that they're closing 600 stores, but that's not because people don't want their Starbucks. It's because people pick one store & don't go to the one across the street: over-saturation of the market. Classic economics.

The Parade was fun, very similar to Pleasanton's. I went to hang out with AV & enjoy some good people-watching. A great time had by all... even the very first hour there!

When Things Don't Make Sense

Most of us really struggle with the question of why bad things happen. I found this post & loved it's poetic response. It was originally posted on The Purple Cellar Blog--if you have never been there...go. It's under favorites.

One of the hardest experiences in the Christian life is trusting that God is good when things seem to the contrary. We pray and pray about a difficulty or perplexing situation, and sometimes it seems that, as a direct result of our prayers, things only get worse. What is God doing at such times? This poem by John Newton, called These Inward Trials," explains a lot:

I ask'd the Lord, that I might grow
In faith, and love, and ev'ry grace,
Might more of his salvation know,
And seek more earnestly his face.

'Twas he who taught me thus to pray,
And he, I trust has answer'd pray'r;
But it has been in such a way,
As almost drove me to despair.

I hop'd that in some favour'd hour,
At once he'd answer my request:

Yippie, I've been tagged for one of those survey thingys..

1. What did you do 10 years ago?

Me: 10 Years ago I had just finished my freshman year of high school. I was a cheerleader, JV soccer player, a newsboy in the high school musical & um, being a silly girl. Also, making new friends since I didn't go to the middle school that fed into our high school. I was probably at cheer camp at UC Irvine since we practiced & went to camps during the summers.

William: Finish up his junior year at high school down south. He worked at coffee house during the summer, but did Christian summer camps during the previous two summers. He ran track and cross country. He did high jump, long jump, hurdles, 1 mile and relay. He was also about to purchase his first motorcycle, but drove a VW rabbit in the meantime.

2. Five items on your to-do list today?

-Buy a new mattress pad (ours has burn holes from the dryer from the cat episode, see "Oh, No!")
- Hang new pictures up
-Be active: walk, bike ride
-Catch up on "So you think you can dance" at my parent's
-Make our bed

William:
-Work
-Pick up new suit for work
-Figure out our car insurance
-Kiss & hug his wife
-Survive "So you think you can dance" with his wife

3. Snacks that you enjoy?

Me:
-Fruit--any and all kinds. Especially berries!
-BBQ or Honey Mustard chips: Kettle Chips are amazing!
-Tomato, Cheese, Basil covered in oil & balsamic vinegar
-Coffee & cookies
-Any granola mix with dried fruit & nuts

William
-Wheat Thins (Tomato Basil)
-Chips & Salsa
-Nuts
-Meals..William can eat them for snacks :)

4. What would you do if you were a billionaire?

Well I could go two sides on that one: selfish flesh or Christ-like, here's a little of each:

-Support missionary friends on a monthly basis as well as donate to places that help & support young pregnant girls
-Adopt a quiver full of kids
-Take all kinds of classes for things I want to learn: sewing, cooking, dancing, playing the cello, etc
-Stop working so much & vacate to the world :)
-Savings! Especially for those future college costs!

William: Put it in a bank account & invest some, get a part time job, travel & do missionary work, make sure his family was set for life

5. Places that you would live?

This is a tough one...
-Europe for sure
-I miss Colorado & Montana
-A major city for some time would be fun too: Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston
-In college, I totally wanted to live with the Amish for a month to learn all those sweet skills & have a simple life (that's what glamourous West L.A. can do to someone :))

William:
-Australia
-Somewhere near family: Indiana, Mass.
-In the country: Wyoming, Montana
-Africa

6. Do you have any hobbies?

Me: Well I had more before this last year when I started teaching. Since it's summer, I'm starting to finally picks things up again. I always love trying new one too. Gardening; painting; outdoors: biking, running; traveling; reading; can shopping be one too?

William: outdoors, motorcycling riding, country, reading, fixing things

7. Name a pet peeve:

William has a billion, here's a few:
-People who don't use their blinker when changing lanes (you're using a heavy ton machine.. you could save people by letting them know what you're doing & where you're going!)
-Freeways that make you change lanes in order to stay on them
-Toilet paper rolls put on the wrong way
-Discourteous people, in general

Me:
-Laundry left in the dryer...I don't iron but don't like wrinkles..I know, I'm lazy
-People who think the rules apply to everyone but them
-Wet towels on the ground or bed

Official Family Tradition

William and I have discovered our first married family tradition!! We're so excited. We noticed that every time we went away or if someone came to visit, we always pick up Thai Food for that last evening meal. It's after that long drive home & we're still on cloud 9 from vacating or we're sad to see our visitors go. So as not to lose that good feeling, we extend the time at home with Thai. We love Thai food, but don't get it often so it's a special treat. In the process, we've uncovered a small, inexpensive yet delicious Thai place walking distance from home. Bonus! They have the best curry & tom soup. So, we made the our pattern an official tradition! So come visit us & be a part of our tradition...

Cayucos, CA

A wonderful place to be for a weekend get-away. It was so lovely, I can't even begin to describe what a wonderful weekend away we had. It's our 6 month anniversary (now, don't be thinking this is going to be a regular monthly tradition, but fun to acknowledge) & a friend of William's was getting married there. So why not make a weekend of it?!?

We stayed at this amazing B&B called Cayucos Sunset Inn & were pampered immensely: Milk & Cookies at night, a wine & cheese evening spread, & breakfast in the morning! We were walking distance from the beach & had a big jet tub for two. And I swear the thread count had to be 1000. We spent the afternoon in Morro Bay and the evening beach wedding was beautiful. A wonderful weekend!

Oh, and don't forget to notice my husband's trendy threads. That's MY man!

$100 Store

Yup, that's right. I'm talking about Costco. We made our normal trip this week on Monday (typically after church on Sundays, with everyone else & their family!) We hadn't been for at least 3 weeks so we weren't too careful about budget. And lo & be hold, our bill was definitely over $100. After much debriefing, William & I truly believe that no one person or family can walk out of that store without spending more than $100. Even if you walk in with a list. We did.

Is it possible?? Has anyone done it??
